Minika Ko – Black Evening Dress

Conscious designer Minika Ko creates beautiful sustainable designs for women from her base in New York City. Minika holds a degree in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City and a degree in Music Business from New York University. She has also received several awards including, two from the California Fashion Foundation and Textile Association of Los Angeles and Elle magazines’s New Talent Award. Although Minika now calls New York home, she has lived and worked in Paris, Tapei and Los Angeles and travelled extensively across the eastern and western hemispheres. With this extensive travel experience Minika designs with adventure in mind, for the courageous, independent, modern woman. The philosophy behind the Minika Ko brand lies in enhancing a woman’s confidence by highlighting her best features to ensure that she always feels like herself in her outfit – the woman that she desires to be.
During New York Fashion Week in September 2016, Minika debuted her women’s ready-to-wear collection entitled KOVASKY. This collection comprises of cutting-edge performance fabrics used to create wrinkle-resistant evening wear, business attire, water-resistant trench coats and stain-resistant white dresses. The aim with this collection is to show how high fashion and functional clothing in tailored silhouettes can be created for the modern, unstoppable career woman.
In addition to working on her own collection, Minika also collaborates with artists from other disciplines; March 2016 saw her collaborate with the Denver Art Museum to create an original and one-of-a-kind Samurai Armor made from paper for the ‘Samurai, Armor from the Ann Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Collection’ exhibition. After the Samurai Armor Minika went on to design a wearable technology garment known as the ‘CloudDress’ and along with other cutting edge designers, the dress featured at New York University’s Integrated Digital Media Showcase.
Where possible Minika ensures all her creations are pass through zero-waste techniques which is in line with her principles on helping to reduce the negative impact fashion waste has had on our environment for so long.
